Mr Ciaran Meagher

24/11/16

I am looking forward to the Hennessy on Saturday which I will be attending for the first time since Denman’s second victory in the race. I am often at Towcester on Hennessy Day but no more since they halved their racing programme for greyhounds last year and this was one of the days that went (moved to today actually). My Hennessy trends appear as the third race down in the Race Trends section.

We are in a nice position too with Native River recommended at 16/1 on October 12th in Ante-Post Focus so I felt happy in suggesting a second bet for the race in yesterday’s copy hoping to follow up Royal Regatta’s nice win for that column last week. I will be covering Day 1 of the two-day Newbury Meeting later today and hopefully we can have as good as Friday as last week. Andy Richmond's look back at the three-day Cheltenham Meeting was uploaded this morning.

Today I would like to introduce subscribers to a new member of our team as Ciaran Meagher will be covering Golf for us in 2017. From the questionnaire I conducted in the autumn, golf proved to be very popular so I wanted to increase that content. Obviously horseracing is what occupies most of my time so Ciaran will be delving into much greater detail in his previews than I ever could, and he will also cover a good deal more than the 12 tournaments I managed this year starting with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in early January. A full list of events he will be covering will be given at the start of the year.

The format will be slightly different however as Ciaran will only be giving his pre-tournament views so you will still have to put up with my views on Sundays for the better tournaments ahead of the final round. My ego also won’t be able to resist giving you my pre-tournament thoughts for the four Major Championships so you will have two views for the price of one for The Masters, US Open, The Open and USPGA.

Continuing with the sports coverage and Mike Henderson gave us another profit in his darts coverage last week and he will be covering the three-day televised Players’ Championship for this weekend, the final big event before the World Championships start on December 15th. Paul Smith will be covering the Third Test Match between India and England tonight, Ross Miles’ best bet for NFL Week 12 is already uploaded and I’ll be back on Friday with Premier League Picks after two wins from three recommendations last week.

I had intended to cover the UK Snooker Championship which has already started but I plain ran out of time with the first two editions of Cheltenham Ante-Post being a real time killer. With regards to Cheltenham, I've already been invited to appear on five preview panels. It's usually zero until mid-January so I don't know what the heck is going on there.

I would have gone for Judd Trump who is still 15/2 after winning his first match. I think that his 9-8 defeat of Ronnie O’Sullivan in the final of the European Masters last month where he took the final three frames to claim the title can finally be the making of him. When he’s on, I think he is the best right now. As such, there’s also very little downside in backing him for the World Championships now at 7/1. If I am right and he wins here (or The Masters in January) he will be shorter for the one that really matters, and much shorter if he wins both. However, I can’t see him starting at bigger than 7/1 on the eve of that event even if he wins neither.
